Solar/Wind Hoax?

Solar/Wind Hoax?I see this solar/wind tower thing about once a week, and I have to presume it’s a hoax,  perhaps to see how credulous we green energy folks are, or to test our grasp on sixth-grade math.  It costs $1.5 billion and will generate 435 MWhs of electricity per year?  That’s about $30,000 per watt, about 2,000 times more expensive than solar PV with a capacity factor of 20%.   Or, presuming a lifespan of 20 years and zero operation and maintenance, it’s $150 per KWh — seems a bit steep.

I think I feel someone pulling my leg — or perhaps they really do think we’re all dunces; I’m not sure.

Well, if you go back past just the linked article to the company’s website, you can see that the 435 MWh is confusingly representing a yearly average of 435 MWh per hour, so at least the theoretical cost per kWh is not completely insane – using your 20 year/no maintenance assumption, maybe $0.02/kWh. However, while I don’t tend to be as blunt as you Craig, I think this one belongs in the “physics challenged, bordering on investor fraud” category, along with Solar3D and V3 Solar. Don’t get me wrong, they’re all interesting concepts, and I would love to be proven wrong, but just can’t see it…

so it’s hard to believe a tower that big can produce 24/7 downward winds and make 435mwh per hr?

I think there is a possibility this may work, the theory/science behind it decent on small scale, but nothing this big or remotely close was tested (only compared 2 small demonstrations via dry ice etc)

They did get financing, the land, the mayor talking about it on the news, the water, and now all they need is to build and prove. (and if it fails, if it is built, i would expect people ending up dead in a near by river, lol)

Comment back n share knowledge/info/science that I haven’t seen or read about, because u can never be to careful to stand up for something if you’re dead wrong.
