Will Google Sit Around And Watch the World of 20th Century Fossil Fuels Destroy the Planet?

Will Google Sit Around And Watch the World of 20th Century Fossil Fuels Destroy the Planet? My colleague Gary Tulie is helping me with some of the research and writing surrounding my current book project (working title: “Bullish on Renewable Energy – Eleven Reasons Why Clean Energy Investors Can’t Lose”).  To that end, he recently sent me his input on Google as part of the chapter I’ve tentatively called “Google, Tesla, Apple, and the Other Forces of Super-Innovation Will Not Sit Around While the World of 20th Century Energy Destroys the Planet.”

I responded:

This is truly excellent. I can use all this with virtually no edits.  It’s beautiful.

The only possible improvement would be insight into their secret plans for the future.  And, of course, there is a reason that you can’t lay your hands on them, i.e., that they’re secret; I get that.  But I would love some insight, even if it’s speculative, as to what Google might be planning.  From the outside looking in, we have to believe that they’re contemplating a disruptive way to sell and deliver electrical power.  Maybe this is what the acquisition of Nest is all about; maybe there’s more to it.  What do you think?

Maybe this is a way to look at it:  What would you do if you had $48 billion in cash, thousands of the brightest minds on Earth, and a huge commitment to sustainability? I have a feeling they’re not going to buy a few football teams, but rather that there is an OMG moment right around the corner here.  My issue is that I have a problem seeing around corners.
