Climate Disruption – 2014 In Review

Climate Disruption – 2014 In Review“Everything’s coming together, while everything’s falling apart.”

That’s the summary of the 2014 “year in review” from climate justice super-group 350.org.

It’s wonderfully concise, i.e., expressing a great deal in few words.

I recall the 1971 Philadelphia mayoral race in which tough guy Frank Rizzo (pictured) clobbered Quaker bow-tie-clad Princeton alumnus Thatcher Longstreth.  When he (Longstreth) arrived at the podium to deliver his concession speech to his small group of well-educated and mannerly but thoroughly disappointed supporters, he began,”There is a time in every campaign when the winner wins and the loser loses.”

It’s hard to look at the current scene with respect to our planet’s climate and not feel similarly.  There is a time when every civilization either does what it takes to survive—or it doesn’t, and, whether it makes you happy or sad, you’re living in precisely that time.
