2GreenEnergy Interns Writes Posts on BatteriesOur intern, Fabio Porcu asks:  I’m writing about batteries but it’s a very large topic. Do you prefer that I write about the physics behind it, or about the different technologies used today?

I think this should be broken down into several areas, about which you could write short posts:

• History

• Basic chemistry: redox, half-reactions

• Applications have different requirements for volumetric and gravimetric densities of both power and energy

• Pros and cons of different chemistries: cost, use of exotic materials, safety, weight, cycle life, etc.

• Electric transportation

• Grid-scale storage

• Behind-the-meter storage

• The Gigafactory

• Ancillary services

• Competition to peaker plants

• Value in the developing world

• The battery world’s most outrageous claims

• The rate at which batteries’ characteristics aren’t improving, and why this isn’t faster

• The AABC (a battery conference I sometimes attend)

Good luck, and let me know if you need help.
