How Should Progressives Regard Trump’s Victory?

Garrison Keillor’s article in today’s Washington Post on Trump’s victoryHow Should Progressives Regard Trump’s Victory? is amusing, to be sure, though it’s hard to know what to do with his main message, i.e., it’s the Republican’s baby now; progressives can sit back and catch up on their reading and work on cleaning out their garages.

IMO, the world has never seen anyone who could use the language so simply, directly and pointedly.

Years ago, Keillor commented on his radio show “A Prairie Home Companion,” “The reason I’m not a Republican is that I was taught from an early age that when the host of a party brings out a tray of cookies, it’s improper to take them all myself; they’re meant to be shared.” So brilliant.

Yet his idea here flies in the teeth of all the people who are urging us to work harder for things like environmental protection and to avoid at any cost going into despair.

On a separate note, here’s what Trump wants to accomplish in his first 100 days, which includes lifting all the bans on oil exploration, coal mining, and fracking.

Some will relax with a cold martini; others will roll up their sleeves.  Though I’m not quitting personally, I respect either position.

I have often enjoyed his clever guidance in “The Prairie Home Companion” that plays on NPR Saturday nights. He retired this past summer while I wasn’t looking but the show goes on as his well oiled machine. Like any good showman did he seem to have a way of hiding an amazing grasp of his medium in all its details in a clear and simple format. He made it look easy while he put us at ease.

It seems with the article he is up to the same tricks. Let’s relax he says, let’s take in all in. We have time now, because we are not responsible, to learn some lessons we may have missed while we were busy. Beautifully done. A real master.

Yes The Iconic Garrison Keillor provides a Positive Reflective Channel Path for moving on and acceptance of the Dark turn of Events that has landed in our politics.

Those Hordes of Black swans have Landed and their Feasting has just begun !!!!

The Triumph of Bombastic Style over Measured Discernment and its meanings and consequences goes Far Beyond the Scope of this discussion platform.

All Bets are Off – perhaps some Elites and Power Brokers will shed their arrogance and rediscover what being grounded and centered really means.

But as Garrison says they the GOMERS own it but they will make us each pay for it no escaping that sad Reality. Rough Justice perhaps!
