Garrison Keillor

Garrison KeillorI had the good fortune to take in “An Evening with Garrison Keillor” last night.  As one might expect, the event is an incredibly funny, charming, and wide-ranging monologue, based largely on stories, some true, others fictitious—all woven artfully together with poetry and a bit of singing, carefully crafted to deliver poignant messages of hope and inspiration.

He never mentioned Donald Trump by name, but he began with this (and I paraphrase):  last week, our house burned down.  Yes, we lost all our worldly goods, but life goes on.  The men have already come through with their shovels and bulldozers and removed the wreckage.  In fact, the loss of all that stuff somehow clarifies our lives and who we are as people, enabling us to build anew. And please stop saying,” I just can’t believe this happened!”  Yes, the house has burned down. Now it’s time to move on.

IMO, this civilization owes a great deal to Keillor, for all he’s done over half a century, using the English language in a way that’s never been accomplished before, helping us smile and gain a richer understanding of the human condition.

  1. Breath on the Wind says:

A truly gifted and remarkable human being, I wonder if he feels the collective national need for his talents at a time when he is personally retiring from projects like the PHC?

  2. Silent Running says:

Garrison has made a Positive Mark with his Journey and brought much positive insight and appreciation for basic decency and positive human interactions.

The stage will miss him as many multi generation appeal was a real gift thru many ages!
