U.S. Environmental Protection Agency: Headed for Ruin

Scott PruittHere are a few things you probably already know about Scott Pruitt (or “Polluting Pruitt” as he’s frequently called), Donald Trump’s pick to head the EPA, as reported by the Sierra Club:

• (Pruitt will) have disastrous consequences for our health, air, water, and climate.

• As attorney general of Oklahoma, Pruitt turned his office into a crony capitalist institution, suing the EPA on behalf of big polluter “clients” who turned around and gave more than $300,000 to his re-election campaign.

• He’s a climate-change denier, and his own work bio calls him “a leading advocate against the EPA’s activist agenda.”

Here are five more equally nauseating facts about Pruitt.

It’s our sincere hope that this weight of evidence is sufficient to motivate all Americans to call their senators and demand that Pruitt not be confirmed.

This is how money in politics kills our country and planet

      Exactly right.

        Craig,

Hmmm,… I’m curious, could you explain why the EPA needs a ‘battalion’ of military equipped troops numbered among it’s personnel, including squadrons of Tanks ?

It’s difficult to imagine the sort of scenario where these could be deployed, even more difficult to find difficult to believe this was what Congress intended when granting the EPA police and prosecuting powers.

I would have thought the US Marshal’s Service, FBI or any of a number of US law enforcement agencies could render adequate assistance in the unlikely event of armed resistance ?

    Craig,

Well I’ll confess Scott Pruitt wouldn’t be my first choice as a new EPA administrator.

But then, I’m not President, and nor are you. Scott Pruitt will have his opportunity to e3xolain to Congress why he should be confirmed in office, and he will be judged by the only people qualified to judge the matter, elected representatives.

Scott Pruitt isn’t my sort of conservative, but no one would question his ability as a ski8lled and experiences administrator.

There’s no doubt the US EPA is in need of reform and a change in culture. The Agency has grown arrogant, expansionist, politically activist and over-reaching.

No government agency, or any branch of the Civil Service, should hold itself beyond accountability to elected authority, constitutional and statutory limits.

Is Scott Pruitt the type of administrator to be able to impose necessary reforms, without hindering the EPA’s ability to carry out it’s duties ? I think this will be a challenge for both Scott Pruitt and the EPA.

There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with Scott Pruitt’s stated intention to refocus the EPA away from radical, activist policies and agendas. If he is sincere about his desire to make the EPA more effective, while becoming more accountable and focused on it’s duties rather than pursuing political/ideological agendas, then he could be assisting to restore faith in the EPA’s reputation as a valuable regulator.

    Only time will tell…..
