A Contributed Post: Green Study Tips for Midwife Students

Green Study Tips for Midwife StudentsBeing eco-friendly should be high on the listen for any university student, even more so a midwifery student. These green habits are good to start when you’re a student, as you are more likely to carry them with you when you are a certified nurse midwife, if you start implementing them into your lifestyle now. From recording your lectures to altering your mid study break, here are five green study tips for midwife students.

Go Digital

It’s not that difficult to go completely digital in today’s tech savvy world, so why do so many students continue to note important details down via pen and paper? As long as you keep your laptop/ tablet/phone charged up you’re good to go! Going digital also means that you won’t have to spend time sifting through paperwork to find the rest of the project you’re working on, you’ll spend less money on stationary and can help save a tree or two! Take a look at these paper statistics if you’re still not convinced!

Textbooks

Instead of buying brand new textbooks that not only cost an arm and a leg, but the production of them contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, why not try used textbooks, or even digital copies? The making of a text book consists of breaking down wood fiber, which is usually produced by the use of coal plants. The production of paper consumes a lot of energy that is contributing to our planet’s slow destruction. When training to become a certified nurse midwife, you depend on textbooks, so a good way around this is to buy used and digital textbooks, and when finished with your used textbooks you can also sell them back!

Record Your Lectures

When studying, it’s always a nightmare looking through your mountain of lecture notes, trying to find the right one you’re looking for. If you record your lectures, not only are you cutting down on your paper usage, but you are also adding more time for studying, as you’ll no longer be struggling to find all your notes; you can just listen to the lecture instead. Not only will this ensure you’re able to get more out of your lectures, but will also contribute to saving the planet!

Get Some Fresh Air

We all get to that point mid study where we feel like nothing is going in. It’s a good idea at this moment to have a break! Usually most of us will stay glued to the laptop we’re studying from, however, this contributes more to the electricity bill and light pollution. Instead, go out and get some fresh air, go for a bike ride, or go for a run! Exercising is a great way to stimulate the brain, especially after long periods of studying time.

Stop Having Disposable Snack Breaks

Another good way to keep the brain simulated when studying is food! However, avoid takeout food. This type of food usually comes in disposable packaging, therefore contributing to the country’s landfill problem. Make yourself a snack or a meal before you go to the library to study, not only will you be cutting down on your disposable waste but the meals you are making are likely to be a lot healthier!

We all know studying can be difficult at the best one times, even more so if you’re trying to be eco-friendly. But with these easy tips you can greatly improve both your lifestyle and the planet!
