Ruby Tuesday–Bring On Roy Moore!

DONtiffW4AE_xHMHere’s a message the likes of which I’m sure many of you have received recently:

Craig, We may do things a little bit differently in the South, but unfit for office is unfit for office — and no matter where you come from, what kind of accent you talk with, or how you like your eggs, the fact is that Roy Moore is unfit to serve in the U.S. Senate. Now, look, a lot of pundits say that doesn’t matter. They say that, no matter how strong a candidate Doug Jones is, Democrats ain’t winning in Alabama. But you know something? It isn’t up to them. You and I still have one more day to make sure Doug has the resources he needs to finish this race strong and compete for every vote in tomorrow’s special election. That’s why I’m asking you, Craig: Pitch in $3 right now to stand with Doug before the polls close!

Though I do confess to having slipped Bernie Sanders a few bucks in 2016, I generally don’t do things like this…and especially in this once-in-a-lifetime, win-win case.

If Roy Moore loses, there will be one fewer hateful redneck moron governing our formerly great country.  If he wins, things get even better.  Republicans everywhere will be pushed one step closer to having to look at themselves in the mirror, and I don’t think many of them are going to like what they see.

Yet for me, there is a great deal of sadness associated with all this.  My mother, 91 years old, is a kind, decent, well educated, lifelong Republican, and she didn’t deserve this sort of cognitive dissonance in her golden years.  Most of the women born in Philadelphia in 1926 who are still on our Earth have little left to live for beyond boxes full of chocolates and the Phillies.  Mom’s reading the world’s great books and calmly discussing political philosophy from dozens of different thoughtful perspectives with her loving but horrifically liberal son.  It’s not right that her party elected P.T. Barnum as president, and is packing Congress with people of even worse character.

I’m sorry, Mom. I truly am.
