America’s True Problem

38252537_10155933815277909_4442500569373868032_nAt left we find a quote from American historian and political dissident Howard Zinn; it’s from the transcript of his opening statement in a debate at Johns Hopkins in 1970.

Think of how absurdly impossible a Donald Trump presidency would have been in the heady days of 1970.

This was the year the Environmental Protection Agency was established; 48 years later we’re rushing as fast as possible to destroy it.

George Wallace, an unapologetic racist, ran for present in 1968 on a platform of bigotry and hatred, and was regarded as a joke everywhere but the Deep South.  Last year, the president of the U.S. granted moral equivalence to white supremacists and those who protest against them.

In 1970 we had a president who was a terrible human being, but we did not know that when we elected him. 48 year later we have a president who makes false or deliberately misleading statements an average of 6.5 times a day, and who enjoys the ardent support of almost 40% of the American public.

Immediately after 1970, the free press saved the integrity and function of our democracy by the hard work and commitment to truth.  48 years later, the president successfully denies access to journalists who are critical of him and endangers their very lives by echoing Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Hitler and Pol Pot, in calling them “the enemies of the people.”

Accepting and normalizing the words and actions of the president means the end of government of, by and for the people.

At this point it’s clear that only one of two things will survive the next few years: American democracy or American obedience.  It’s incumbent upon each of us to pick the one that works best for us; we cannot have both.

    Craig,

Both will survive perfectly well. There have been far more radical and outrageous US Presidents than Donald Trump, and the US always survived ! ( Even George Wallace recanted his segregationist views and asked forgiveness from those whom he had harmed, especially black citizens).

The President did not “grant moral equivalence to white supremacists and those who protest against them”! That was an opinion by CNN, repeated and repeated by the anti-trump media until it’s reached the level of ‘truth’ in public mythology.

The President did condemn the violence exhibited by extremists on both sides, which is both accurate and morally correct.

Isn’t odd that among those who listened carefully to the President’s words was the local leader of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and attended the demonstration, who issued a statement supporting the President’s observation ?

Perhaps it’s a sign of the times when even honest commentators like you, would rather repeat a distorted media myth, you want to be true, than accept the reality ?

Perhaps it’s a case of “he who hurls the first stone”. The President has a right to defend himself against inaccurate attack by a biased and vicious media, obsessed with passing off salacious and invented tales as “fact”.

    Craig,

Sorry, got interrupted. Just when I thought the US loony left couldn’t get more ludicrous, they excel themselves !

I swear I couldn’t make this stuff up for a comedy sketch ! Outside a Philadelphia coffee shop gather a group of leftist (mostly young, white and some Anfifa) protestors screaming hysterical abuse while chanting “F**K White Supremacy” and “End Racism now” .

The victims of their abuse were Charlie Kirk a conservative commentator and Candace Owens a female colleague. Both were enjoying breakfast, when the craziness began.

The irony of yelling ‘ugly racist’ ” ugly racial sexist bitch” and attempting to physically intimidate, humiliate and assault Candace Owens, a beautiful, young black woman, in the name of equality possesses so many levels of irony as to qualify as Theatre Macabre.

Even stranger was the abuse toward the largely black police and Hispanic officers. Yelling, “Cops and Klan, hand in hand” “Fascist Cop lover” from a young man screening through a bullhorn, induces Candace Owens to reply “This is why we love the police because you guys are the violent people, we aren’t.”

Candace Owns later commented, My companion I were attacked by ANTIFA, a nearly all-white fascist organization, that grew violent and attacked black and Hispanic police officers.

Why ? Simply because I, a BLACK woman, was eating breakfast!

More shockingly, Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters, praised the demonstrators for showing “race traitors” they’re not safe anywhere !

The grotesque madness into which the US left has fallen, wouldn’t have been believable back in 1970 !

No amount of Russian interference could possibly do as much damage to Democrat candidates as these bizarre fools.
