America at a Crossroads

55-7738-crossroads-1382138799How many times we’ve all said to ourselves, “Man, I wish there were a way to get everyone to read/watch this.”

This is such a time for me.  The United States stands at a crossroads.  Our democracy is under threat, but we’re not an authoritarian state (yet).  We’re teetering on the edge,  because we have a leader who lives in a fictional world where facts and truth no longer exist, and he thinks he can take us there with him.

Each day brings shocking news: I can’t believe ….. just happened, but sitting around being astonished isn’t enough.

I hope you’ll check this out.

  1. I 100% agree! Trump does not deserve to be president! He is too foolish and does not see reality! But then again we voted for him.

    Craig,

The US is not “teetering on the edge of becoming an authoritarian state”, nor is the President a threat to US representative government.

His speeches (and tweets) may not be to your liking, his style and manners may not be to your taste, but his actions are astonishingly overt, astute, and effective. He does his best to keep election promises. He’s cheerfully adaptable and flexible because he’s beholden to no faction, party loyalties, or political ideology.

For those reasons he seems unusual and even chaotic in comparison to old style Presidents, predictably bound by ideological and party doctrines. President Trump can change his mind, because he’s his own party !

The US Constitution gave the President certain powers and privileges. It didn’t mention political parties or ideologies.

From necessity and convenience(largely his) President Obama was a greater threat toward imposing an “authoritarian state”. Obama’s use of Presidential edicts and orders, was the hallmark of his administration.

The over use of Executive orders to avoid Congress is bad, not only is this a misuse of administrative authority, but weakens to resolve of legislators to do their duty and legislate.

(That doesn’t mean Obama intended to be authoritarian).

Time and time again, Trump has refused to issue or renew Executive orders, insisting the legislature debate the issues and accept the responsibility of passing appropriate legislation.

It’s a rare President who lessens Presidential power in favour of giving it back to the people’s elected representatives!

Today, the New York Times showed true colours ! The NYT published an opinion arguing the constitution is no longer relevant or desirable and should be scrapped if it doesn’t prevent Presidents such as President Trump taking office! The NYT argues the constitution should be destroyed in order to preserve constitutional government !

President Trump represents the end of a happy delusion for America, he represents a new new era where the US can take nothing for granted and must start to compete to survive.
