Thanks To Brave Legislators

Best-Organic-Baby-FormulaThough the news on the environment coming out of Washington DC remains terrible (and is actually worsening, as the new EPA administrator hones his game in the deregulation of toxic chemicals), lots of states and local governments are making excellent progress.  A dozen states are working hard on near-term goals to be running on 100% renewable energy, and today we learn that Maryland is banning polystyrene.

The folks making this happen need to be congratulated on their bravery, as many individual citizens are indifferent to environmental protection, and the business entities that stand to gain from pollution put enormous pressure on their political opponents; major polluters spend 10 times as much on climate lobbying as green groups.

In fact, that’s as sure as death and taxes: if your proposal hurts an established industry, you need to be armed for bear.   For example, we talk a lot about plant-based meat, but check this out, as anyone could have predicted, how the beef lobby is “having a cow.”

    Craig,

If there’s no advantage for laboratory chemically connected food to be mislabeled as meat, why are you fighting so hard for the right to describe the product as something it clearly isn’t?

The genuine Beef industry is entitled to resist competitors misleading consumers with fake products.

Imagine your indignation if you purchased your wife a diamond ring, only to discover it was really a cheap Zirconium or paste imitation.

Recently, Australia witnessed public demonstrations by persons claiming to be Vegans. This small group of self-righteous pests felt entitled to waste a great deal of public money by staging demonstrations disrupting traffic on major thoroughfares.

Funded in part by the “Get Up! organization”, these vandals attacked a family farm under cover of darkness.

The “liberation” aimed at “setting the farm animals free”, had catastrophic consequences. In the deliberately created chaos, a number of dairy cows cattle panicked and stumbled into an irrigation ditch, killing several most painfully and injuring many more.

Some of the cows strayed onto the nearby freeway, where two were killed and several more injured by traffic,. Two motorists and a truck driver were also injured including a 3 year old child.

One cow (in defense of her calf), attacked, and severely gored, an elderly horse which tried escaping into the cow’s enclosure. The horse later died from the injuries sustained.

The miscreants then beat to death a dog which tried to defend the property. They also “set free” a number of chickens from an old fashioned hen house.

Nearly all the chickens were killed within 24 hours by feral cats, hawks, eagles, ferrets and foxes.

The distressed farm family returned home from an overnight at a city hospital where they had been in vigil for a young daughter undergoing a critical life threatening operation.

The vigilantes attacked this property knowing it would cause the maximum distress.

Al I can say, is I hope for their sake, the Police find these appalling people before the local farming community!

Beyond Burger and Impossible Burger are both commercial enterprises in pursuit of profit. It’s sheer hypocrisy to describe there propaganda any more valid, or noble simply because you like the product.
