Will Advanced Thinking in Traffic Intersections Reduce Our Carbon Footprint

US_131,_M-6,_68th_St_interchangeThere is a case to be made that autonomous driving will greatly reduce the carbon footprint associated with transportation.  Though many of us wish we were able to eliminate the fossil consumption, as opposed to the driver, we shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

Here’s something else (see this video) that, it could be argued, will also help, though it’s hard to tell.  It looks like the savings in throughput may more than offset by an increase in materials, especially those heavy in CO2 emissions, like concrete, not to mention land use concerns.  I hope you’ll check it out in any case, because one thing’s for sure: it’s mesmerizing.
