Sustainable Compensation

urbanisation-caracas-390x220Here’s Abigail Disney, an heir to the family fortune, talking about CEO compensation.  “There’s nothing wrong with a $65 million payday, as long as the people who work for you aren’t so strapped for money that they’re rationing their insulin,” she says. “We seem to be saying that the people who spend their lives hard at work, but at the bottom of the economic latter, don’t deserve a living wage….and these aren’t the values we were taught growing up.”

66162445_2581113638590187_8183908793520750592_nThere are numerous reasons that the ever-growing gap between rich and poor isn’t sustainable, one of which is that desperately poor and under-educated people are disenfranchised from the democratic process.  Of course, as we’re seeing with the gerrymandering and voter suppression around the country, this is precisely what the rich are trying so desperately to engineer (see discussion at right).

Yet, look at the pic above.  Can anyone on either side of that freeway be happy?  I sure couldn’t.
