Trump Tackles California’s Clean Air Standards

UntitledTrump is relentless in his quest to destroy California’s clean air standards associated with auto emissions, ordering the state to conform to the lowered protections he’s commanded for the other 49 states.  In characteristic form, the Golden State isn’t accepting this assault on its environment, and has begun litigation to safeguard its citizens.

“I’m confident we will prevail eventually. It will take years and years, more uncertainty, more anxiety,” governor Gavin Newsom said. “Your standards will cost consumers $400 billion, resulting in 320 billion more gallons of oil burned and spewed into our air. And hurt car companies’ ability to compete in a global market. It’s bad for our air. Bad for our health. Bad for our economy.”

Trump claims that rationale behind his position is making cars less expensive and safer, though experts vigorously dispute the latter claim.

The true rationale behind Trump’s position is open to speculation, especially insofar as it’s opposed by voters and automakers alike.  Perhaps a clue lies here: Trump is 100% consistent in his policies that damage the environment, because anything, regardless of how indefensible, that “makes liberals whine” automatically appeals to his voter base.

November 3rd, 2020 is coming closer every minute, and nothing says “Make America Great Again” more powerfully than kicking treehuggers, and especially Californians, in the groin.
