Changing the World Starts with You and Me

5d8565942e22af0c3f73ec12-1536-1152The incredible photos here remind us of one thing: the power that rests in all of us to change the world.  When Greta Thunberg would skip school each Friday to protest here government leaders’ indifference to environmental protection, she could not possibly have foreseen the world’s reaction just two short years later.

    Craig,

Like ‘earth day’ and other similar demonstrations, these events are merely a sort of Gala or fete for the media and various rent-a-crowd social attendees.

In Australia the media reported 300,000 participants.

When analyzed correctly that figure can be reduced by at least 50% due to media exaggeration and sensationalism.

The next reduction that must be made is the number of young people who attended solely as a social event, along with those who just go to attend to publish other causes, or instructed by militant unions to attend. But even if accurate, 300,000 in a nation of 26 million is still only approximately 1% of the population!

More Australians celebrate a horse race!

Any ‘movement’ that requires a precocious, truant school girl as a role model, is hardly likely to achieve any serious momentum or serious credibility.

In Australia following a sound defeat, the main Australian Centre/left Labour Party decided to abandon its previous radical environmental platform and distance itself from the previously allied Green Party. The ‘Greens’ have slowly been absorbed by hard line socialists and present a more radical agenda, especially on social or economic issues.

Australia, is not alone as ‘Green’ parties across Europe lose momentum loses and merge into old style hard line socialist parties.

The rise of ‘populists’, is a reaction to the old centre losing credibility and failing to present rationale, yet inspiring policies and platforms.

Much of the once trusted, traditional media outlets have degenerated into sensationalized, corrupt, biased propaganda organizations, losing any semblance of journalistic integrity.

Public debate has degenerated into mere abusive shouting matches, with neither side listening or learning from each other.

Among commentators and ‘pundits’ it’s no longer considered shameful to libel or slander opponents. It has become morally and ethically acceptable to repeat rumour and unsubstantiated allegations as proven fact, without even a cursory examination of evidence or independent verification.

Perhaps the saddest evidence of a general malaise in public debate and information is the growing pride in many commentators to boost ” I don’t bother to read or listen to opposing views, I don’t need to listen to “trolls”.

Such a remark once symbolized the hallmark of the ignorant. The sort of person who proudly declaimed “I don’t care what you say, I’m agin’ it” !

Recently the once respected academic media platform, “The Conversation” changed editorial policy. The “Conversation” will no longer accept dissenting opinion or information which challenges ideological beliefs held by the editorial staff.

The name of the organization, now stands in parody of itself ! No longer a “Conversation” but a “Sermon”.

Sad, but these events are now cheered by the very people claiming “progressive” values, while practicing crypto-totalatarianism.
