No One Expected Trump’s Behavior

71738018_2661785917217228_3616105817461227520_nTo be completely honest, though I suspected that this was going to be bad, I had no idea how bad.

To illustrate how completely easily taken in I was, I told my wife that there is a chance that Trump will say, “OK, America, now that I’m elected, I’m going to fool a lot of hateful people out there and lead a government that does its best to help all the people, regardless of race, religion, or income. Especially income; the test of a society is how well it takes care of the people most in need. I’m going to work my hardest to be remembered as the best thing that’s ever happened to this country.”

I went on to explain my reasoning:

OK, he campaigned on promises that he’d be a racist, bully, hate-monger, but that certainly is not in his interests, and he must know that.  If you were elected president, the most exalted office in the world, would you immediately inflict as much suffering on as many people as possible?  Wouldn’t you want the history books to explain how you helped save the environment from ruin and made great advancements towards justice and peace?  Doesn’t everybody want to be remembered as a friend of humankind, and a potent one at that?

My wife simply laughed.  I think she hugged me and said, “Craig, I love you, but you really are a gullible dupe sometimes.”  Holy crap, how wrong I got this.

    Craig,

Let’s see if I understand you correctly. You say President Trump is a terrible human being and President because having been elected on the basis of his platform, policies and election pledges, he keeps faith with the voters and carries out his election promises?

WTF? Sorry, but did you really imagine once having sworn in he was say, surprise! Look I’m really Hilary Clinton in disguise?

As usual, your logic is astonishing. In onedn the one hand you claim he is the most incompetent, corrupt and deceitful President in US history(untrue) and also the President who most faithfully carried out his election pledges (true) !

Isn’t the dichotomy obvious, even to you?

Do you really imagine if you repeat this nonsense long enough, and loud enough, someone outside of the little group round the cracker barrel, will believe you?

Does it ever occur to you that a requirement for being an effective US President “as a friend of humankind, or “justice and peace?”

It might be a lot more simple and practical. Like providing employment, containing an increasingly militant and aggressive Dragon, reducing US debt, controlling the boarders, a viable immigration policy, restructuring and rebuilding the US Industrial base, ensuring US allies pay their share of defense, ensuring US competitiveness, not allowing rogue nations acquire nuclear weaponry, obtaining more favorable trade deals, draining the Washington Swamp, containing Russian ambitions and a host of other matters.

Oh, and along the way, ensuring 100,000 US citizens needing kidney transplants are treated fairly (something Obama promised, but never got around to in eight years).

By 2020, there will be at least 300,000 transplant recipients who can thank Donald Trump for their lives! I wonder how they will vote? I wonder if they agree with your opinion?

Oh well, never mind, ! wonder what new excuse you will find in 2020 when Donald J Trump is re-elected?
