Volvo’s First Fully Electric Car

Any automaker that expects to be around in 20 years has an electric vehicle program aggressively underway.  Sure, some of these efforts are slow-rolled, as the EV adoption curve hasn’t yet gone into high gear, due largely to issues associated with range and price, not to mention inertia; Americans tend to do this year what they did last year.

Speaking of slow-rolling, when I was at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2008, I ran across Volvo’s EV plans.  Here’s there first offering, a mere 11 years later.

    Craig,

Of course, since 2008, Both Sweden’s once famous car makers have collapsed into bankruptcy.

SAAB, after several attempts at revival finally being sold to a Chinese consortium called National Electric Vehicle, which despite being given a lot of taxpayer funding from various governments (and even the EU) finally dispensed with the SAAB brand name altogether.

Volvo was bought by Chinese car maker Geely.

The Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. Ltd is a huge Chinese conglomerate owned by Chinese billionaire businessman, (and influential CCP boss), Li Shufu.

Geely is an aggressive purchaser and developer of Western technology by any means available, often by legitimate brand acquisitions such as Lotus, Lynk & Co, PROTON a 9.7% stake in Daimler-Benz.

    Often by more dubious means.

But, why would it matter to you if Volvo are late or early with producing an EV ? I mean, it’s not as if you were likely to purchase an EV in 2008, or for that matter, 2019, or probably 2028 !
