Onward Christian Values

It’s the 502nd anniversary of the act of defiance for which Martin Luther is known today: nailing a copy of his 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenberg Castle church, marking the beginnings of the Protestant Reformation and its separation from the Catholic Church.

Until very recently, Catholicism hadn’t changed too greatly over its 1600-year history.  In fact, it wasn’t until the advent of Pope Francis that we saw a real shift, which, fortunately for all, was in the direction of humanism. Now, for the first time, we see a pontiff pushing His followers in the direction of environmental responsibility, world peace, inclusivity, healthcare as a human right, equitable wealth distribution, compassion for immigrants, racial blindness, gay rights, the acceptance of the biological and physical science, and so many other things humankind desperately needs if it is to survive.

Astonishingly, one could substitute the theology of Jimmy Carter (see above) for that of His Holiness, and no one would know the difference.

Fine by me.
