Getting Trump Gone: How Far Need We Go?

Readers understand that I desperately want to see Trump gone, but if they want to see real passion here, they need to meet my wife.  Becky’s having such a tough time with the day-to-day news about the climate denial, the cruelty, the lawlessness, the lies, the ignorance, the hatred, and so many other things, she’s talking about leaving the country if Trump is re-elected.

Craig: But honey bunch, where would we go?

Becky: New Zealand.

C: But carrot stick, don’t we want to be near the kids?

B: We can visit from anywhere on Earth.

C: Anywhere? Not sure about the commute from the place shown here.

Needless to say, I’m just hoping none of this will be required.

    Craig,

Oh yeah, that’s right, I’d forgotten all those hysterics crying they would leave the US if ever Donald J Trump ever became President.

Of course none of these folk actually carried out their solemnly declared intentions! But what did surprise was the level of obsessive refusal to accept the result of the election.

The idea that the “will of people” is not determined by an election, but by whether the result is accepted by an elite group of careerist commentators, public servants and intelligence agencies, is a very dangerous concept.

Once the idea becomes fashionable that if the Constitution is inconvenient it can be ignored with impunity, and the end justifies the means, then the US will find respect for representative democracy dissipates.

I watched in disgust as an US Lieutenant-Colonel, in uniform, working for an intelligence agency, openly declared before Congress his belief that he, not the President, should decide US foreign policy.

It was the Colonel’s stated belief that his loyalty to the previous President and agreement with the way in which foreign policy was previously conducted allowed him to become a member of the “inside resistance” movement of public servants and intelligence officials, and conduct a covert campaign against the current President and his policies.

Democrat legislators listened to this astonishing testimony without admonishing the wretchedly deluded military officer.

The Constitution is very clear on the subject of who is responsible for foreign policy. It’s the duty of every American, especially service personnel to uphold the Constitution, especially when “inconvenient” and recognize elected civilian authority is paramount.

Don’t let your fear and obsessive hatred of President Trump destroy your belief in the rights of your fellow citizens to elect the President of their choice and allow that President to implement election policies in accordance with the Constitution.

If you feel that you can’t do that, then may be you should exile yourself.
