Being More Fluid in Our Thinking

The pic here is a good example of what psychologists refer to as functional fixity. We so strongly assume the mistake is in the array of numbers that our minds are “fixed” and we find it difficult to look elsewhere.

The turning over of a new calendar year may be a good time for us to challenge our assumptions.

Hell, maybe Trump is a good and honest person and perpetual motion is possible.  OK, let’s not get carried away.

    Craig,

President Trump is far from perfect, and for his supporters that’s part of his charm. he’s certainly not the polished, hypocritical smooth operator we’ve come to expect from political candidates.

On the other hand, nor is he the monster you keep screeching about.

This week after a long fight, the President fulfilled one of his many campaign pledges.

On Thursday, President Trump signed a bill permanently providing more than $250 million a year to the nation’s historically black colleges and universities, along with dozens of other institutions that serve large shares of minority students.

In signing the bill, Trump said historically black schools have “never had better champions in the White House.”

“Before I took office, I promised to fight for HBCUs, and my administration continues to deliver,” the President said. “ Funding for HBCUs has been in jeopardy for too long. But now the White House and Congress have come together and reached an historic agreement.”

Michael Lomax, President and CEO of the United Negro College Fund, thanked Trump and praised the President for his long support stretching over several decades. Lomax said without the President’s tenacity and the help of thousands of advocates who lobbied Congress to support the bill, the bill would have continued to languish as it had throughout the Obama era.

Meanwhile, MSNBC,’s Rachelle Maddox claimed Trump is a “evil racist” and Micheal Lomax is just his “Uncle Tom”.

Rachelle Maddox also claimed every African American graduate helped by this funding has been tainted by the United Negro College Fund’s acceptance of decades of funding by the Koch foundation and should be ashamed to have accepted these benefits.

The best part of the bill is all the money will be derived from saving made in streamlining the education bureaucracy.

The legislation will allow the Education Department to eliminate 62 of the 108 questions on the form.
It’s also meant to curb a verification process some families face to make sure they provided the same information to the IRS and to the Education Department.

The old ‘verification’ process, a bureaucratic nightmare that 5.5 million students go through will be eliminated allow enormous savings.

US Education Secretary Betsy Vos announced the streamlining process had discovered a further a further $100 million for Hispanic-serving institutions, $30 million for tribal schools and $40 million for a variety of other minority-serving institutions.

Craig, I’m always curious as to why you always seem to miss this sort of “good news” news?

But maybe it’s just not “good news” if it doesn’t suit your agenda, eh?
