Predicting the Climate Future

Here’s a cheery article that offers five climate-related mega-predictions for the coming decade.  Though it’s insightful at a certain level, most what the author presents is essentially guaranteed to happen.  Climate denial ends, followed by the mobilization of capital to phase out fossil fuels. Got it.

My only comment is that, if there weren’t fierce opposition, all this would have already happened.  There is an enormous amount of Big Money that, for reasons I cannot fathom, is pulling the other way, and hard.

Another impediment is that our consumer society, one in which everyone acts in his own self-interests, is unlikely to change; this makes the idea of coming together to address a threat, regardless of how imminent and serious, very improbable. As a consequence, this either happens as a natural evolution of world capitalism, or it doesn’t happen at all.
