Bruce Springsteen: ‘Trump Doesn’t Understand What it Means To Be American’

I would submit that it’s more complicated than that; it depends on what it actually does mean to be an American.

In a way, America is at war with itself. Sure, its traditional moral principles include fairness, compassion, honesty, and doing what’s right for the common person.  But American values also include a kind of me-first greed and selfishness, racism, violence, imperialism, and anti-intellectualism.

Sadly, this second set of principles has come thundering to the lead in the past few years.

What happens next is anyone’s guess.
