Ocean Wave Power Generation

Here’s a short video on one of the many variations on the theme of converting the kinetic energy of ocean waves into electricity.  A couple of points:

Its developers claim, correctly, that the power in all the world’s ocean waves could represent about 40% of what our civilization is consuming.  They don’t mention that there are 372,000 miles of ocean coastline, rendering this fact completely meaningless.

There are other similar concepts that use the motion of the waves to compress a fluid that then turns a turbine.  Note, however, that they call for a liquid rather than a gas, because the latter is compressible, given rise to all manner of losses.
