Denmark Points the Way

When we look at the meme here on Denmark, realize that the United States could see a reaction against the neoliberalism that has been dominant here for the last 40 years, and head in this direction, like most of the rest of the developed world.  Obviously, this won’t come from the beneficence of the top 1%, but rather from the increasingly severe hardship faced by the working class, and the growing realization that they’ve been lied to and betrayed by the current U.S. president.

Do the Danes pay higher taxes? Yes, their indexed tax system ranges from 36% at the low end to 55.8% at the top, though this is complicated because Danes are allowed far greater deductions than Americans.  In any case, keep in mind that the top tax rate in the U.S. was 70% or higher from 1936 through 1980.

Also, let not forget that in general, Danes don’t mind paying higher taxes, because they get a great deal of value in return.

Many Americans look at photos like the one to the right and remain unmoved.  Perhaps that’s the problem right there.
