Why Trump Is Toast

A miracle will be required for Trump to recover in the polls and win re-election in November.  What put him in the ground, IMO, was the events of the past week, fanning the flames of racial tension following the murder of George Floyd, resulting in violence and death that would have easily been avoided had any sane and compassionate human being been the U.S. president.

He may have been able to convince his base that the impeachment was a political vendetta, that his 20,000+ lies and misleading statements are fake news, that his handling of COVID-19 was wonderful, or any number of other things.  What he will not be able to do, however, is convince voters that four-star Army generals are incorrect in their observation that he represents a live threat to the United States of America.

When you have Generals Mattis and Kelly instructing the American people that they need to do a better job in reviewing the “character and ethics” of presidential candidates, and the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff saying, “I have to date been reticent to speak out on issues surrounding President Trump’s leadership, but we are at an inflection point, and the events of the past few weeks have made it impossible to remain silent” — you are toast.

You may be able to force yourself to believe that all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies are wrong in their findings that Russia tampered with the 2016 election, or that Mueller’s work was a “witch hunt,” or that white supremacists are “very fine people,” or whatever.  What you will not be able to swallow is that America’s top military people are disloyal Americans, that they are liberal sissies who wish to weaken our country.

That simply will not work.

He’s done.
