Living Life To Its Fullest

Obviously, there is a difference between cancelling and altering plans for the holidays, but that’s not the most objectionable aspect of this meme. Rather, it promotes the idea of violating state and local government guidelines that are put into place to protect the health of those around us.

I know I’m not alone in saying that living “life to its fullest” is inconsistent with selfishly endangering other people’s lives.

This “it’s all about me” viewpoint may not be uniquely American, but this culture sure does embrace it wholeheartedly.  This is why the United States ranks far below countries in Europe and Scandinavia in the World Happiness Rankings.  The people of those nations pay higher taxes, but for the most part, they do so willingly, knowing that they live in a land where people are not homeless, freezing, starving, dying of treatable diseases, and going through life without an education because they couldn’t afford one.

It’s this concept of social democracy, i.e., regulated capitalism, that has conservatives so upset.  How bad is it really?
