Tasmania 100% Powered by Renewable Energy

Tasmania, Australia’s island state to the south of its mainland, best known to most American baby-boomers for its cartoon personality pictured here, has declared itself to be 100% powered by renewable energy, in this case hydro and wind.

So what’s the point?  That if Tasmania (population 515K) can do it, anyone can?  Of course not.  Yet it’s worth acknowledging that efforts toward noble causes generally have good results, and, in this case, a state the size of South Carolina will never use another molecule of fossil fuel (or uranium) in its electricity production.
