Court Suspends Giuliani’s Law License Based on Lies About Trump Election Results

From the New York Times:

Rudolph W. Giuliani, a former top federal prosecutor, New York City mayor and lawyer to a president, now faces the possibility of disbarment after a New York court ruled on Thursday that he made “demonstrably false and misleading statements” while fighting the results of the 2020 election on behalf of Donald J. Trump.

Well, I guess that puts some level of pressure on the 70% of Republicans who still believe the election was rigged, and the 50% who expect Trump to be reinstated in August.  Of course, they can claim that the entire legal apparatus of the United States is corrupt, in its malicious and unjust persecution of a good and honest ex-president.  They’ve already shown that they’ll believe anything, rather than accept the fact that Trump is a criminal sociopath.

Back to Giuliani, and not that it hasn’t been observed before, but as far as I’m aware, U.S. history has no precedent for the fall from grace of a public figure in a way that even remotely resembles what happened here.  Here’s a man who was a national hero for his deft and compassionate handling of New York City after 9/11, and then deliberately aligned himself with a sociopath, orchestrated the spreading of a vast web of lies, and is now regarded as a common criminal.  If you had wanted to bet me that this would happen 20 years ago, I would have wagered against it $10K to a dime.
