Americans Bamboozled By Mainstream Media

It’s pretty clear that the American public is getting played by the media.  Of course there is the right-wing garbage in which “journalists” simply invent things that attract the Republican base of largely old, angry, and undereducated white people.  But what I’m referring to is the mainstream media newspapers and cable channels.

Right now it’s all about a Trump run for president in 2024.  We’re told that this is plausible, but is it really?

Notice that currently no one seems to be mentioning that Trump is in deep legal trouble, coming at him from a dozen different directions.  Some of these are civil cases, e.g., sexual assault allegations, but most of them are criminal.  Are all these investigations at the state and federal level really going to just evaporate?

We’re also being asked to ignore the many scores of people who have direct experience with the man who are now coming forward and explaining precisely what it’s like to work for, with, and around the sociopath.  We have another three years of this sort of material, being released a report or book at a time, at the rate of one every few days.

Then we have the implosion of the Big Lie. As things like the Dominion Voting Systems law suits show that Trump’s claims of voter fraud are groundless, a significant number (not all) of his supporters are going to be forced to the conclusion that they’ve been had.

Another factor is the environment and climate change.  In the last 12 months, many Americans have begun to confront the realities of all this for the first time, largely because they’ve lived through the droughts, wildfires, and floods caused in part by climate-fueled hurricanes.  Trump is quite clear on his position that global warming is a hoax, and that’s not going to fly with a great number of people.

Finally, think about U.S. allies.  These people are going to beg us not to make the world suffer another four years of this mayhem.

Yes, Biden has made some missteps, but let’s look at the bigger picture: Trump lost by 8 million votes in 2020, and he’s going to face many battles that weren’t yet on the table a year ago.
