Disinformation Governance Board

Here’s a conversation I’m having a reader (Jim), who is concerned with the “Big Brother” appearance of the “Disinformation Governance Board.”
Craig: Are you suggesting that it will become illegal to make an assertion that runs counter to the views of this board?

Jim: It’s all too tempting for even honest people to claim valid dissenting views are “disinformation,” which must be canceled. I don’t think there’s a chance in hell Biden or whoever is pulling his strings will get away with it.
Craig: You seem to be saying Biden’s trying to overturn the First Amendment and send us into Orwell’s “1984.” The right wing media says that he’s simply a doddering old fool, incapable of any real thought. It can’t be both.

Jim: So, you’re okay with the “Disinformation Governance Board” thing?

Craig:  From what little I know about it, it sounds like this:
The spread of disinformation poses a real threat to our democracy, especially that which comes from energy states whose mission is to damage the United States.  This isn’t idle speculation or fear-mongering; every single one of the 17 different U.S intelligence agencies found that Russia meddled in the 2016 election on behalf of Donald Trump.
The board would provide what our top people from the most relevant organizations know about the pandemic, standard of care for various diseases, Russian interference into our elections, any evidence supporting the “stolen election,” etc.
It would provide specific points of disinformation that are being disseminated, with links that provide the truth.
If you want to claim otherwise, your rights under the First Amendment means that the U.S. government cannot prevent you from doing so, but a) you will be incorrect, and b) you should understand that private companies, e.g., social media platforms, can set up whatever terms and conditions standards they choose.
Jim, this doesn’t seem too scary, at least to me.
