How Responsible Are We for the Outcome of Our Lives?

At first glance, the meme here makes sense.  Aren’t we all responsible for our own condition?

It’s a natively attractive proposition for me, born a white straight male, adopted by wealthy parents who sent me through private school and college, and to whom nothing seriously bad happened to me on my home planet’s first 67 revolutions around our local star.  I wasn’t born blind, deaf, black, Muslim, gay, Mexican, diseased, or impoverished.

If I happen to be of superior moral character, it most certainly has zero to do with my having gotten lucky in my birth.
