Are Republicans the Party of Freedom?

A reader asks, How can the Republicans bill themselves as the party of freedom when all they do is take things away from people? Voting, books, abortion rights, Social Security, Medicare, saying ‘gay,” teaching history.

As far as I can see, the only answer is that they appeal to angry and selfish white people, whose sense of the word “freedom” does not go any further than their own interests.

I’m reminded of a wonderful bumper sticker:  “FOX NEWS: We make you mean and stupid.”

You have pin-pointed part of it correctly, but not with a broad-enough brush.

There are people of all races and skin-tones in the Republican Party that adhere / actually believe the “stuff” / positions that is “present day” Republican dogma — which observably is based on racism, political power, and monetary “I can take it with me” self-power.

    There are no other answers.

and “being angry” because you think / feel that you “are being looked down on, or left behind” — is who’s fault?

If something / someone “looks like a Duck, acts like a Duck, walks like a Duck, and sounds like a Duck — it /you are perceived to be a Duck!

Look in the mirror: because if you really feel that way, i.e., being a Republican Duck — only you can change that perception, and just raising hell over you “hurt feelings” isn’t an acceptable answer.
