A Rare Post on Religion

There are many threats to the democratic republic our forefathers established here 243 years ago, improved as it was, over the years, to include equal protection under law for people of all races, creeds and cultures.

Carefully consider each word in the meme on the right here (more legible version below), and realize the precarious position we are in vis-a-vis the freedoms we’ve come to know and treasure.

Obviously, this discussion should go in sveral different directions, but let’s start with the assault on science, reason, and fairness from the far-right fanatical Christians.  Should creationism and climate denialism be taught as science?  Should entire religious bodies with 1.5 billion adherents (almost one-quarter of the world’s population) be named the enemy of the United States?  Should certain Old Testament texts be used to criminalize homosexuality?  Should men control women’s reproductive systems?  Should the verse of Genesis “Man will not destroy this Earth” be used to absolve us of environmental responsibility, as certain important congressmen have suggested?

It’s up to us to decide. Let’s think about this carefully.
