Fox News Braces for Massive Amounts of Litigation re: Coronavirus Lies
Regular readers know that big oil companies, ExxonMobil in particular, are facing enormous legal liability associated with lying to the public, especially shareholders, about what they knew as early as 1980 concerning the danger that climate change represents and the damage that their product would ultimately wreak onto humankind.
Here we find Fox News in a vaguely similar, but far more serious situation, insofar as they routinely lied to their many millions of viewers about the severity of the coronavirus over an extended period of time.
A few excerpts from the article linked above that have Fox lawyers preparing for the worst include:
• Coronavirus is just “an impeachment scam.”
• It’s a hoax. “They’re scaring the living hell out of people and I see it again as like, ‘Oh, let’s bludgeon Trump with this new hoax.’”
• You’re safe as long as you’re not old or weak. “Unless you have an immune system that is compromised, and you are older, and you have other underlying health issues you’re not going to die 99% from this virus.”
• It’s no worse than the flu. Fox News Medical Correspondent: “At worst…worst case scenario it might be the flu.”
• Now is a good time to breathe some airplane air. “It’s actually the safest time to fly. Everyone I know that’s flying right now, terminals are pretty much dead.”
• Laura Ingraham tells viewers to ignore doctors’ advice. “A global recession would be worse for our people than the Great Depression. Doctors provide medical treatment and cures—they should not be the determinative voices in policy making now or at the end of 15 days.”
If there is a God, please let it be so; may He smite these people.
