As anyone could have predicted, the growing dominance of solar and wind, based largely on their plummeting costs, is quite correctly perceived as a threat to the enormity of the fossil fuel industry, which is taking aggressive measures in several states to combat these clean energy resources. Thanks To Brave Legislators
Though the news on the environment coming out of Washington DC remains terrible (and is actually worsening, as the new EPA administrator hones his game in the deregulation of toxic chemicals), lots of states and local governments are making excellent progress. A dozen states are working hard on near-term goals to be running on 100% renewable energy, and today we learn that Maryland is banning polystyrene. (more…)
Concept in Ocean Wave Energy
Here’s a concept in ocean wave energy that is explained in a short video. Here’s the problem these guys are going to run into: they share a widely held misunderstanding that water in waves moves in the direction of the wave. In actuality, the energy in the wave moves forward, but the water itself moves in a circle.
Solar-Based Solar PV
There are lots of ideas floating around that are theoretically possible, but so wildly unfeasible that they may just as well have been impossible. Putting large amounts of solar PV in space and beaming the energy down to Earth is a fabulous example. As the costs of ground-mounted PV continues to fall and the various approaches to using or storing intermittent energy become more affordable as well, no one will be thinking adding more space junk.
