Climate Change Disinformation
It would be easy to think that the fossil fuel industry’s aggressive disinformation campaign, attempting to discredit the theory of anthropogenic global warming, was abandoned years ago, and that the overwhelming body of evidence in support of the theory has long since made it impossible for any credible person or organization to deny the facts concerning our warming planet. Americans Struggle To Understand Their Most Important Document
The bad news is that only 43% of Republicans think that Trump should be able to shut down any news media outlets that he deems to be serving up “fake news.” Thus the good news: 57% of Republicans have at least some understanding of the U.S. Constitution. To simplify, the (slim) majority of Republicans understand the First Amendment, and some of them, presumably, know that there are legal and constitutionally valid remedies to libel that are available to the president, and anyone else.

Coal Comes Back To China
A sharp surge in demand in electricity in Shandong, Henan, Hunan, Hubei and Zhejiang provinces of China has led to a re-appearance of coal-fired power plants, according to this report, and confirmed by satellite photography. Regulators are quietly giving coal the nod, both to new construction as well as to the re-commissioning of formerly shuttered plants. (more…)
