An eco-friendly home doesn’t mean giving up the little luxuries of life. However, a little innovative thinking comes in handy. For example, use rain water, natural laundry soap and local foliage to help protect the planet and preserve her resources. Even an eco-friendly pool is a better alternative for creating a house people and the planet will love for many years to come. (more…)

Going Green--How Factories Everywhere Can Lower EmissionsGlobal warming is one of the most pressing issues of this century. It occurs naturally. However, as Jacqueline Lerche notes, pollution from human creations like factories has accelerated the process. Factory emissions lead to the production of ozone, carbon dioxide and methane, which when released into the air, enhance the greenhouse effect and produce more global warming. The detriment goes beyond the destruction of the environment, however. (more…)

Solar Powered Ambulance2GreenEnergy associate Gary Tulie sent me this piece on a light, three-wheeled solar PV-powered ambulance, largely for use in third-world countries like Bangladesh.  It’s a cool idea, and the writing is incredible. I love the first paragraph, comparing high-end Teslas to flashy jewelry, while pointing out that this ambulance is about life and death; it’s almost poetry.  (more…)

David Brooks: "What a Failed Trump Administration Looks Like"We use the term “unsustainable” a great deal here, referring to processes that lack the potential to continue indefinitely into the future. Normally, we mean processes that have some bearing on environmental justice; things like consumption of fossil fuels or the expanding consumption of red meat, which are both unsustainable if we want to avoid the ruination of the ecosystems that support human life.   (more…)

ExxonMobil’s decision to bury the truth about climate change, Exxon—The Road Not Taken, convincing Americans that global warming is a hoax

Here’s an article that combines two elements of 20th Century Americana: news and poetry.  It’s the Pulitzer Prize winning story of ExxonMobil’s decision to bury the truth about climate change and an allusion to our most beloved poet (Robert Frost), called: Exxon—The Road Not Taken. (more…)

Carbon Capture and Storage --With Geothermal Thrown In To Boot2GreenEnergy super-supporter Gary Tulie sent me this piece on carbon capture and storage for my review.  The basic story line is that CO2 can be taken out of the exhaust steam from fossil power plants, compressed to form a liquid, and used as the fluid medium (replacing water) to extract geothermal energy from beneath the surface of the Earth.  As it turns out, liquid CO2 has several distinct advantages over water in terms of efficiencies in collecting and distributing heat.  (more…)

Drones Can Be Used to Protect the EnvironmentDrones have a lot of negative associations, though owners have found novel ways to use them to protect the environment. Due in large part to the use of drones for military applications, much of the public distrusts drones. In fact, enthusiasts typically prefer to call the devices “unmanned aerial vehicles” (UAVs) for their less ominous connotations. (more…)

This Surreal Point in U.S. HistoryBefore I introduce this video, let me state the obvious: IMO, we’re living a national nightmare with Trump in the White House, and it grows more intense with each passing day.  Now, if it were just I who had that viewpoint, a random progressive dude with a website and a consulting practice in clean energy, along with the left-of-center segment of the media, I would fully expect readers to take my words with a grain of salt (or stop reading them altogether). (more…)

Battery Prices Falling Through the FloorIf you’re wondering what will push battery prices down to previously unforeseeable levels, look no further.

Up until recently, sushi has had far better storage technology than electricity, but that’s clearly no longer the case.  As described in the article linked above, three huge battery plants are going live this very week, Tesla’s among them.

The War on Climate Science Heats UpRe: the meme to the left here, Senior Energy Analyst Glenn Doty notes: It hasn’t been 97% for over a decade… it’s now ~99%.  The only “skeptics” left in the denialist camp all receive heavy funding from fossil fuel companies, or are retired partisan blowhards who have made no effort to inform themselves on the subject for many, many years.

And just when you thought the Trump administration couldn’t get any more malevolent against the environment, William Happer, the frontrunner for the role of science adviser to Donald Trump describes climate scientists to the Guardian thusly: (more…)
