The “Car Grinder” and a Few Environmental QuestionsWe all know that certain things in our world are more attractive to males than females.  Little boys play with toy trucks, where little girls play with dolls.  As boys grow up, they are drawn to much larger pieces of machinery that are part of our real, practical world, e.g., trains.  But trains can’t touch this baby.

As cool as this thing is, it raises an interesting set of questions to environmentalists: (more…)

Sure, the U.S. Congress Is Corrupt, but It Gets Steadily Worse from There

When I lament the issues with our government, it’s normally to note that corruption, i.e., the fact that law-makers vote in lock-step with the interests of those who have given them enormous campaign contributions, and the will of the people (according to a recent study from Princeton University) means nothing whatsoever. The Future of Transportation:  Using Less of ItIt seems that one could add the suffix “genic” to any noun form, to create an adjective meaning that a certain thing is made or caused by a particular source.  Take the work “obesogenic,” for instance; it’s hardly in mainstream parlance, but no one could possibly wonder what it means.

As we redesign our cities and the modes of transportation we use to move our bodies and our goods around inside them, we would be well to remember that we have the opportunity to provide an important benefit: physical exercise.  This is an occasion to revert a trend that applies to an alarming number of people: steadily gaining weight, as there is no good reason for them to walk or bicycle to a destination.

Here’s an article, under the “smart cities” category, that explores this exactly.

photo Ensco_102_amp_Transshelf_p2_zpsa181bd3c.jpgA dear friend has offered to do some publicity work to promote my book: Bullish on Renewable Energy.  At issue, it seems to me, is explaining that the subject matter I present is really 180 degrees from conventional wisdom.  The two ideas below are really at odds with one another, meaning that they can’t both be correct:

Green Finance Could Work Hand In Hand with Debt Relief Companies to Help Save the Environment
Green finance is very important these days as more and more individuals, companies, organizations and governments begin to realize the importance of saving the environment for current populations and for posterity’s sake.

In previous generations, getting green financing was an almost impossible endeavor. This is mostly because it was not possible to prove indisputably the science behind some of the environmental impacts that man makes on the environment. (more…)

Renewable Energy Is Becoming the Deal of the Century—And That’s Good, Because Its Success Most Certainly Is Not Coming from the U.S. GovernmentFortunately for humankind, the replacement of fossil fuels with renewable energy does not require the participation of the U.S. federal government.  In particular, there are 14 business-related drivers, each independent of government support, that are rapidly making clean energy so inexpensive that the pressures of pure market economics are forcing this change, regardless of the wanton corruption in Washington D.C.

Yet many of us haven’t given up the ghost on U.S. democracy.  I invite readers to check out “Mayday,” arguably the nation’s most potent movement in the removal of influence of money over law-making. (more…)

Exploring Our Duties as Citizens of Earth; Happy Anniversary to Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath”When I hit the “publish” button in a few moments, this short piece will be our 4922th post, of which I’ve written just over 4400 personally.  Roughly three-quarters pertain to some aspect of renewable energy, whether it’s a comment on some aspect of the science, the economics, or perhaps the politics that govern our energy policy and our related efforts in the direction of sustainability here on planet Earth. Removing Pest Infestations from Your Garden So As To Preserve the EnvironmentGardening is a worthy hobby as well as a beautiful way to decorate and garnish the outside of your house. Planting is always considered as the best source of a healthy environment both for the entire ecosystem and your surroundings. But what’s a nightmare is the thought of having insects and pests in your garden. Getting rid of these tiny evils is one hard thing to do. You have got to get a good hold on the life cycling and categories of the insects before applying any method to eliminate them, as there are a bunch of insects that are actually good for your gardening, because they act as predators to those plant eating pests. International Energy Agency Announces Pleasant Surprise Re: Greenhouse Gas Emissions My wife was speaking with her favorite cousin the other day and the topic of environmentalism and renewable energy came up.  The cousin said, “You know that stuff Craig’s been doing for all these years?  It’s actually starting to work!  Be sure to tell him that.”

I had to smile, partially because it could be taken to imply that not everything I do actually works.  God knows that’s true.  (more…)
