Prediction: The Migration To Renewable Energy Will Be Anything But SmoothDoesn’t everyone love the promise of abundant, inexpensive, and totally clean energy?  Actually, no.  Those whose profit streams come from dirty, 20th Century energy most certainly don’t.  These people are working diligently to delay the onset of renewables as long as possible, and often through overtly dishonest means.

Here’s a story about the voter referendum re: solar PV and net-metering in Florida, advertised as a pro-solar initiative.  It reveals how Florida’s largest electric utilities are attempting to deceive voters into supporting restrictions on the expansion of solar by shrouding the bill as an amendment that would promote the use of rooftop solar. Lots of People Are Bullish on Renewable EnergyI may not have friends in high places, but I sure have them in distant places.  A long time ago, Greg Horrall left the U.S. to work on an engineering project in Indonesia, and decided to set down roots there.  He’s in the ancient city of Yogyakarta, about 300 miles east of Jakarta.

Greg wrote to inform me of his interest in renewable energy and suggest a phone call, during which he expressed a deep understanding of the subject, as well as a considerable optimism re: the outcome for humankind.  (more…)

John McCain Vows To Block Any Supreme Court Nominee from Hillary Clinton(Pictured: retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens)

From John McCain (R-AZ), one of America’s most revered leaders:  I promise you that we will be united against any Supreme Court nominee that Hillary Clinton, if she were president, would put up, I promise you.

This “promise” seems to be equivalent to the statements: (more…)

Renewable Energy Is Happening.  Just Look.It amuses the heck out of me that we have people all around us who love to expound on how renewable energy can’t scale—in an environment where renewables are visibly and aggressively replacing fossil fuels as we speak.  My advice to these people: Don’t think, look.  What you’ll see is evidence that clean energy is becoming the defining industry in the 21st Century.  (more…)

You Make a Difference

At 2GreenEnergy, we frequently take on the subject of the enormous, albeit often unacknowledged, power to change the world around us. One of the quotes that seems to sum this up best came from former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger: “If it weren’t for the protest of the common American to the war in Vietnam, we’d still be there.”  Powerful stuff, IMO. Excellence Public Speaking Meets Environmental ActivismI’m preparing for the 50-minute talk I need to deliver on the energy industry at the International Trade Fair. It’s on occasions like these that I wish I were a bit more bombastic as a speaker; I do a decent job of getting the audience into my presentation, but I’m certainly no Van Jones (pictured). I hope you’ll check out this masterpiece from this amazing environmental activist, inspiring a crowd re: the Dakota Access Pipeline.   (more…)

We Need To Give Our Kind and Profuse Thanks To the Oil Industry—and Then Ask It To LeaveFrequent commenter MarcoPolo offers this observation about my post on “Prayer and Oil,” in which I wonder how it’s possible that the staunchest supporters of oil are also the most ardent Christians, given the Lord’s pacifism and compassion for others. (more…)

Oilfield Prayer DayIt’s always eluded me how religion and politics got to the position we find them in the U.S. today. In particular, how did it come to be that the most extreme right-wingers on energy, i.e., the fossil fuel zealots, turn out to be the most devout Christians? Wouldn’t you have expected the precise opposite, given the character of Christ?  (more…)
