Optimists out there will respond well to what UCLA is doing out here in Southern California with its Grand Challenges, as explained in the very well-made videos linked above.
Not to split hairs, but I think of myself as a meliorist, rather than an optimist. I’m not confident that things are going to turn out well here on planet Earth, but I know for a fact that you and I can make a difference for the better.
Lots of people want to do their part for the environment, but are unsure how best to go about it. For some, it is already a way of life, but for those not raised to be 100% eco-friendly at all times, it can be tough to figure out what changes they can make to their lives.
This article aims to pitch changes anybody can make to their daily routine. Making a complete switch to an eco-friendly lifestyle is not something that can be achieved overnight. But these changes can all be implemented by the end of the week if you put the effort in. (more…)
38% of 2GreenEnergy readers live outside the U.S., which is a number so significant that I occasionally feel compelled to provide news to these “foreigners” who may not be aware of precisely how insane we Americas are from an environmental standpoint.

A conservative reader who has displayed a circumspect attitude towards renewable energy notes: Wind, Solar, Wave, Bio-fuels, Geo-thermal, and lots of other alternate energy technologies, are valid subjects for research.
I urge him to keep in mind that wind is already 5% of the U.S. grid mix; there are 370 gigawatts installed worldwide, with a CAGR of 16.2%. Denmark derives 40% of its energy from wind. I would assert that it’s far beyond the “research” phase.
Whether we want to improve the waste management procedures we have in place in our businesses or whether we want to make changes at home there is much we can do to eliminate food waste.

I mentioned (ExxonMobil CEO) Rex Tillerson in an unflattering way in a recent post, based on his refusal to put an environmental scientist on his board of directors. Of course, he is not the only executive in the fossil fuel industry who proposes to ignore the vast ecological damage he’s doing and suck the last molecule of hydrocarbon out of the ground and burn it.
