OMG, this is getting hot.

It’s amazing to see that so many of the “conservatives” at the highest level of government are completely corrupt, and that this is unraveling for all to see.

This particular piece of the story would be great news if there were any way to force her to testify, and not plead the 5th Amendment.

The truth is going to have to come from subpoena’d communications, or from minions who flip.

In any case, if there is no justice here, the United States will have lost its republic, that which Americans have so proudly and bravely protected since its inception.

Here’s an article from NPR that provides a partial explanation for the slow adoption of wind energy in the U.S.: misinformation.

Americans seem to have a voracious appetite for BS, regardless of the subject matter, and that hunger is amplified even further when it comes to clean energy and other climate change mitigation strategies.

Donald Trump famously claimed that wind turbines cause cancer, and he appears to be ready to launch into an attack even when it’s a total non sequitur, as we saw when he was asked about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, specifically, how he thought it would end. (more…)

Regarding the meme here, concerning Clarence Thomas and his insurrectionist wife, a reader says:  Or you should be impeached if you don’t have the personal integrity to resign.

I have bad news about Clarence Thomas’ integrity.  If he had any, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

It should come as a surprise to no one that, as half of the United States shifts (actually, squirts) to the extreme right, abortion rights are in the process of going away–at least in the red states.

Given that we live in an age where we can choose to live wherever we please, this raises the question: do you really want to live in a state with laws that are oppressive to women, LGBTQs, and people of color?

If you were a surgeon who performed abortions, you might ask yourself if you’re willing to have the local Bible-thumpers tell you how you can practice gynecology.  This may mean some level of exodus of educated people from the bright red states.

In medicine, such a phenomenon is already in place.  A friend’s wife was offered a “signing bonus” of $600K to do her residency in North Dakota.  Now, of course, a lot of this is due to the terrible climate, but there are similar significant “hardship pay incentives” for doctors to come to temperate regions that happen to be cultural wastelands like Tennessee.

This is what’s known as defunding the police.  It means calling the police off of incidents in which no physical force is required, allowing them to focus the entirety of their efforts where someone could be injured of killed.
See what the “Goods News Movement” has to say about this, below.  Btw, if zero of 2200 incidents required police backup, that’s remarkable.  In most cases, it’s at least 1%.
This (Denver’s program) is working all over the country.⁣

One of the forces that works in the favor of compassion and reason in this country is the sabotage that hateful morons often inflict on themselves.

Whether it’s insurrectionists going to prison, or idiots like the one here living in poverty, many of these people put themselves in positions where they no longer represent danger to civil society.

This is a very interesting idea, but I don’t believe it for a second.

Think for a moment what Trump’s political career would have been like if he had come on the scene 20 years ago.  He would have made a few preposterous statements and been laughed into complete irrelevance.

In 2016 American voters made him the most powerful person on the planet.

Hillsdale College is a far-right wing institution that performs pseudo surveys like the one shown here.

As with everything we encounter from the ultra conservatives, it involves both lies and oversimplifications.  First of all, who’s stupid enough to believe that “nearly half of younger Americans would prefer living in a socialist country” — regardless of how the word is defined?

For this type of marketing campaign to be effective, it needs to be focused on people so dim or misinformed that they think there is a hard line between capitalism and socialism.  Once one starts to realize that all Americans are the beneficiaries of dozens, perhaps hundreds, of government services, one realizes that the rhetoric here is simply garbage.

Next week it will be: “Do you agree with Biden’s attempts to make gun ownership illegal?”

The passing of Madeleine Albright reminds us of exactly how blatantly treasonous Trump’s behavior was, even early in his term.  On her show Fresh Air, Terry Gross asked Albright in a 2018 interview what she would have done had she been Secretary of State in 2016, when the entirety of the U.S. intelligence community averred that Russia had tampered in the election, and actively helped bring the former president to power. I’ve participated in several protests, and I always take note of the attitude the police take.  I’ve noticed that in liberal areas, law enforcement actually helps, smiling and keeping traffic out of the way.

In rural, more conservative areas, police are not particularly friendly, but I’ve never seen anything like what happened in Denver after the murder of George Floyd.

Twelve people who were assaulted by the police sued; here is the jury’s decision.
