What a brilliant man, and a true humanitarian.

Whether it’s borrowing or actually buying banned books, there is an abundance of evidence that what Stephen King recommends here is actually happening.  Sales of these items are going through the roof.

I love the ads for survival guides that claim: “They don’t teach this in our schools because they don’t want us to be self-reliant.”

Really?  Who’s “they?” Does anyone really want to prevent you from starting a fire without a match or growing your own food?

Of the 330 million Americans, how many aren’t reliant on grocery stores?  How many feel threatened by suppressive forces that will drive them into starvation?

Even if we have a civil war, where the stupidest and craziest Trump supporters take up arms against the rest of the country, they’re going to have a tough time taking out Trader Joe’s and Costco.

Science has been aware of the toxicity of mercury and the other heavy metals for more than half a century.  This is why we have unleaded gasoline and a campaign to remove lead-based paints.

True to form, the Trump administration, in its quest to make the rich richer, had removed restrictions on mercury emissions, understanding that, in so doing, it was deliberately damaging Americans’ health.

The current EPA has taken this one step forward in its concern for human well-being.

Assuming Trump is gone by 2024, Ron DeSantis is, at this moment, the most likely Republican candidate for the U.S. presidency. As shown at left, he’ll certainly have the backing of every anti-science moron in the country.

The county immediately to the north of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, has removed most COVID restrictions, but not because they’re anti-vaxxers.  They have a huge vaccination compliance and, as a result, they have omicron fairly well under control.

The county’s largest city, also called San Luis Obispo is largely a college town (home of California Polytechnic State University) with lots of nice restaurants, good shopping, art, and live music.

The point is that it’s a sophisticated little place, one in which you would be hard-pressed to find a single idiot, like the fans of Ron DeSantis.  Florida had 110,000 new omicron cases yesterday. That’s a half of a percent in 24 hours.

Ooo! Ooo! Call on me!

I can answer the question, and kids, you don’t need the propaganda kit and the free gifts.

It goes like this:

1) Investigation into crimes including fraud, election tampering, incitement of violence, and treason.

2) Criminal indictments.

3) Trials.

4) Incarceration.

Along the way there is the absolute certainty of disgrace, and the significant possibility of flight out of the country to avoid a life sentence in prison.

Now, kids, if your parents think that Trump is an honest and effective servant of the American people, go ahead and accept the gift, and fill your head with a comprehensive package of total bull****.  I feel deeply sorry for you.

Great point here, and I think pretty much every one of us understands this, at least at some level.

It’s still tempting to “get into it” with the Big Lie people, the anti-vaxxers, the climate deniers, and so forth, but it really is a complete waste of time and energy.

The banning of “controversial” books from our schools’ curricula is a horrific development in American education–as if we needed yet one more.

As suggested here, intelligent and honest people don’t believe there is gain to be made from keeping big, perhaps unsettling ideas away from young people. (more…)

I had perhaps 8 – 10 clients in Texas through the many years I operated my marketing services business, mainly in Dallas and Austin, one in Houston.  I never resented going there, perhaps due to the fact that I was getting paid, but probably more so because it wasn’t the three-ring circus that it is today.

Everything we outsiders can see looking in is surreal. (more…)

Everyone who cares about justice, rule of law, and the preservation of American democracy is frustrated by the apparent inaction of the DOJ to prosecute the perpetrators of the coup attempt.

I urge patience.  There is no way for anyone outside the justice department to know what’s going on inside it.  Indictments could be imminent, for all anyone knows.

To the surprise of no one, no fewer than eight of the federal judges that Trump appointed were rated “not qualified” by the American Bar Association.

On what basis were they chosen? The only conceivable answer: to further the advancement of ultra-right wing causes, as required to please wealthy Republican donors.
