Winning the Climate Change Battle
Since the release of the terrifying new IPCC report a few days ago, lots of people have been talking about the prognosis for humankind on this planet, wondering what if anything can be done to avert catastrophe. As suggested in the cartoon here, making real progress in climate change mitigation requires people of different nationalities to come together and work as a team, even though there is identically zero precedent for anything remotely resembling this in human history. According to Bloomberg, the terrifying new IPCC report on climate change has caused scientists to re-assert the need for 
The diversity we see in human civilization comes as a result of the fact that the homo sapiens who left Eastern Africa about 30,000 years ago went in different directions, and eventually formed nations. This was problematic from the start, when various negative human characteristics (greed, racial hatred, sadism, etc.) kicked in and these countries started wars with one another. 
It’s no secret that science is taking a terrible drubbing here in the United States, as tens of millions of people, without any education in the arena, are “doing their own research” by watching media outlets like Fox News and looking at YouTube videos that are loaded with disinformation. 
Here’s a little zinger from cartoonist Dan Piraro, reminding us that our society in doing essentially nothing about a set of conditions that is in the process of wiping us out.
This is a good representation of the horror of the last five years of life here in the United States.
When I come across an idea like this, one that requires angel investment to bring 
I hate to base an entire blog post quibbling about the meaning of a word, but the problem with the U.S. Congress and climate change mitigation is not “dithering,” which means being indecisive, vacillating. The fact is that Republicans and Democrats have reached yet one more impasse, which is the precise Republican strategy, i.e., to ensure Biden cannot accomplish anything for which he’ll receive credit.
Being uninterested in politics was never a reasonable position to take, as people 2400 years ago, including Socrates and Plato, told us. Yet, until 2015, American politics was something of a snooze. It was defined, unfortunately, by corruption, meaning that very little progress could be made in the direction of anything good: environmental stewardship, universal healthcare, better education, etc., as the established players in each of these sectors invested heavily in buying the relevant lawmakers.
