One has to think we’ll hear very little about North Korea during the Biden administration.  The United States has plenty of work to do in mending international fences without involving ourselves in sheer lunacy.

Kim Jong-un knows that attacking another country, especially one that has an iota of American interest in it, will result in his annihilation, and that’s plenty of pressure to get the job done. Note that he’s suspended military action against South Korea. (more…)

What four-star general, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and former Secretary of State Colin Powell said here may sound trivial or obvious at first, but when we let it roll around in our heads for a few seconds, it becomes quite profound, and we begin to get a sense as to how accurate a description of the American body scene it is.

We live in an age that is often referred to as “post-truth,” one in which there exist “alternate facts.”  The election wasn’t stolen, the school shootings weren’t staged, and Bill Gates isn’t endeavoring to enslave the world’s population.  Yet because there are plenty who believe otherwise, “deranged people feel empowered.”  (more…)

Here, William Penn stands atop Philadelphia’s City Hall, with the Ben Franklin Parkway leading to the Art Museum in the distance. Like most cities, Philly is quite beautiful in snow.

Penn, certainly the world’s most famous Quaker, is a reminder that it’s possible for an entire community of people to live according to the principles of peace, harmony, inclusion, mutual respect, and equal justice for all–characteristics that are in distinctly short supply in present-day American society.

As I’ve mentioned, Quakerism and environmentalism are cousins.  How could they not be?  Brotherly love and poisoning the natural world don’t blend together, do they?

Even the idea of robo-consumerism is anathema to Quakers.  Keep it simple and plain, and be kind.  Live a life exemplified by the motto of my alma mater, the William Penn Charter School:  φιλεῖτε ἀλλήλους pronounced (“philAYta aLAYloose”) translates as “love one another.”

The recently filed 10-figure lawsuits against Fox News may have brought this to final fruition, but one has to think is was already in the works. Dobbs is Hannity on steroids, and perhaps Fox figured out that this daily barrage of outrageous lies was eventually going to bite them in the behind.

How long are you going to be able to say the election was stolen and be regarded as even marginally credible?

In the neighborhood in which 2GreenEnergy “headquarters” is located, several homes still feature “Trump 2020” banners.  Immediately after the election, I’m sure they were regarded, at least by some, as patriots.  Now they’re seen merely as seditionists.

My advice: Go back to Hillary’s emails or Hunter’s laptop or Biden’s executive orders, and just try to stay out of court.

Well, I’ve always said, if you want a comprehensive scientific analysis of something based on Newtonian mechanics, particle physics, thermodynamics, and inorganic chemistry, ask a guy with a high school education who grows wheat.

I know how mean and condescending that sounds, and in truth, most farmers are fine human beings, but seriously: no one cares what they think about climate science.  The same applies to phys ed teachers, car salesmen and pastry chefs.

As they say, “Science doesn’t care whether you believe in it or not.”

As recently as 30 years ago there were American jurists, and conservative ones at that, who had completely different interpretations of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution from what we have now.

What changed?  How about big money in politics?  The power of the gun lobby is just one more symptom of the disease that has brought the United States to its knees. (more…)

The caricature here  illustrates a sad truth about what we can expect going forward in American society.

The former president is most definitely “going away,” as he deals with probable criminal prosecution and financial ruination, as well as a slow but sure diminution of public and political support. (more…)

Unfortunately, the reasoning here is lost on the gun crowd.  Virtually nobody, regardless of his position on the political spectrum, is trying to make it impossible for a sane American citizen of the age of majority to purchase, register, and own a gun, as required for personal protection or hunting.

However, this obvious truth works against the power and financial strength of The National Rifle Association, which is why they are working so hard to convince you otherwise.  Insofar as FDR was elected 89 years ago, I suppose we could say that this has been a running battle for almost a century.

If you haven’t heard it yet, you will soon: Biden is coming for your guns.

The last time Fox News was sued for defamation/slander, the federal judge hearing the case dismissed it out of hand, on the basis that:

He (in this case Tucker Carlson) is not a provider of “the news” as we know it, or “facts” as we commonly understand them, and his audience knows this. The “general tenor” of the show should then inform a viewer that he is not “stating actual facts” about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in “exaggeration” and “non-literal commentary.” … Given Mr. Carlson’s reputation, any reasonable viewer arrives with an appropriate amount of skepticism.” (more…)

There are two different, though related reasons that the minimum wage hasn’t risen in the last 12 years:

First, there is a certain undercurrent of cruelty in this country that manifests itself in various ways. If you believe that any other country on this planet would separate the families of asylum seekers and lock those children in cages, you’re very badly mistaken. (more…)
