With all the turmoil in Washington DC, we tend not to think too much about VP Pence. Quo vadis, Mike?

As suggested here, he could be on his way back to Indiana, anxious to push that state back 50 years into the past.

Or, he could be the 46th President of the United States if Trump resigns or is removed by virtue of his insanity and the danger it poses to all of us.

The reader I mentioned the other day, Tom, says in response to my post outlining the criminal and otherwise despicable acts Trump has performed during his years in office, “I would still be interested in what single item stands out in your mind, something that you find provable.”

As I said in the post itself, it’s impossible to know which of these is going to have the most damaging and longest lasting effects.

One of our reading books in second grade featured a drama about a little boy, our age, and the ups and downs he was experiencing in his young life.  At one point, he couldn’t go the circus with his grandfather because at the last minute he came down with chicken pox.  The next chapter brought rain on his birthday.  After what seemed like an eternity of sadness came the chapter titled “Luck Turns.”

This piece in Ecowatch truly is good news.  Maybe this is the part of U.S. history where things turn for the better, whether due to luck, or, more likely, persistence on the part of a huge number of fantastic and hard-working people.

The number of Americans who believe the 2020 presidential election was rigged will continue to fall every day, as the people at Fox News and the hard right-wing congressmen like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell acknowledge, one by one, that Trump lost the vote in a free and fair manner, and that the courts were honest and correct in their findings that there was no evidence of significant fraud.   (more…)

A reader asks: What act by President Trump do you consider to be the most damaging to the country and its people? (Not COVID handling please.)

Here’s a list of things off the top of my head.  Trying to name the most damaging really isn’t possible, if only because in most cases their consequences are very long-term, and it’s impossible to know how all of this will ultimately play out.

One way of breaking this down is to divide the list into two parts: a) criminal and b) despicable, but probably not prosecutable. (more…)

This may be something of a call to arms for all those PO’d about the 126 Republicans’ attempt to overthrow the 2020 election on specious grounds.

To be honest, I’m more interested in the meaning and value of the law than the time in which it was written.

The fringe right-wing lawyer who filed the court challenge to Donald Trump’s election loss in Georgia has called on the president’s supporters to stock up on “Second Amendment supplies” — presumably firearms and ammunition — to prepare for what he apparently envisions as an apocalyptic future.
