Here’s a quick discussion between life-long environmentalist Paul Scott and me, regarding the question posed at the left.

Paul: Short answer is no. You’ll probably be paying even less if you switch to solar or wind energy. (more…)

From this:

A California Pastor has died of COVID-19, five weeks after his megachurch reopened in defiance of the state’s ban on indoor religious services. Bob Bryant, a 58-year-old associate pastor at the Water of Life Community Church in San Bernardino County, contracted the virus in November and eventually suffered severe pneumonia in his lungs…

To revel in the misery and ultimate death of another human being is a crass thing to do.  However, if someone has to suffer and die, it’s nice to know that it’s this boob, rather than some innocent person.

Check out this short speech from the Secretary General of the United Nations, urging humankind to bring to a halt its war on nature before climate catastrophe becomes inevitable.  Powerful stuff.

There’s a report being passed around social media to the effect that the cost of fires in wind turbines could be as high as $9 million.

Although I have no way to verify this, I can point out that there are about 60,000 utility-scale wind turbines in the U.S., and that they cost an average of about $4 million apiece to install, meaning that we have about $2.4 trillion invested.  $9 million represents 0.000375% of that total.

That percentage of the mass of my car is 4 grams.

As baseballer/comedian Yogi Berra put it, “It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future.”

Yes, it’s tough, but let’s just try to extrapolate from where we are now, and take a guess as to what Trump’s popularity is going to look like in 2024.  We’ll do this by taking into account what effect the following vectors will have over the next four years:

• To start, Trump’s messy end-game here in 2020 will do nothing to endear him to Americans, and as awkward and revolting as it looks at this point, it can only get worse before it’s over. (more…)

A great deal of the environmental damage Trump has inflicted on this planet will be fairly easy to reverse once he’s out of office. Of the 104 regulations that formerly protected our skies and waterways from toxic pollution, 80 of these are gone and the other 24 and in process of removal.

Most of these can simply be reversed under a Biden administration. As suggested here, however, some of them are going to be much harder, if not impossible, to put back into place.

With 50 days left in his presidency, look for Trump to take as many actions as possible, calculated to exact permanent devastation.

A reader sent me the meme here, and asked (implicitly) for my comments.

It’s hard to know where to begin.  Robert E. Lee was a traitor to the United States, and led a force that would have promulgated slavery, an institution that the entire rest of the civilized world had long since condemned, as far into the future as possible. (more…)

When we contemplate the phrase “defund the police,” we need to ask: Could progressives have possibly done any worse in their choice of words?  Almost all Americans despise police murders.  But “defunding” the police sounds like “disempowering” the police, resulting in anarchy, opposed by virtually everyone. Laboratory-grown meat is now available for human consumption for the first time, having been recently approved by the relevant government agency in Singapore.  This is a huge deal for environmentalists, who point out quite correctly that the destruction of Earth’s rainforests to make way for the production of beef is as deleterious to the stability of our planet’s climate as the consumption of fossil fuels. As if this were in doubt? She was put in place specifically to destroy public education, and she put on a stunning performance.

She has promoted the privatization of public schools through vouchers, called for deep cuts to federal funding, rolled back protections for vulnerable children, and shilled for the for-profit college industry that has defrauded countless students.  She supports Trump’s budget proposal to slash funding for the Department of Education by 13.5%, which asks for a collective $9 billion in cuts to education, including after-school programs, career and technical education, and programs to hire and train teachers.

DeVos was in the news recently, as a federal judge put a stop to to her latest scheme to divert taxpayer aid away from public schools and toward private institutions.

Bernie: In your mind, who finished in second place?
