This guy notes:

A Trumpster trains his mounted military-grade sniper rifle on peaceful protesters in Weatherford, Texas. This is a class C felony weapons intimidation, but Texas police didn’t bother with him or interfere with his white supremacists friends when they violently attack a group of Black Lives Matter protesters. This will eventually end in a massacre, and the police are no longer enforcing the law against racist criminals killing peaceful protesters. What do you think happens next?

Good question; this really is a recipe for a massacre, and Texas law enforcement will have oceans of blood on their hands if it takes place.  This is true whether shots are fired a few minutes after this photo was taken, or when Trump is removed from office.  In either case, failure to enforce weapons laws lays the groundwork for mass shootings.

This meme got me thinking: Is this really what kids are learning?  A few points:

It doesn’t apply to young kids growing up in the homes of Trump supporters, since they’re told that the president is an honest hero, working hard for the interests of the American people, and if they come across any idea that conflicts with this, it’s necessarily Fake News. This, FWIW, is the way all cults operate; their leaders are billed as perfect and their beliefs are the only valid ones, though all this is misunderstood by society at large.

As these children get older, they have the opportunity to figure this out for themselves, but an opportunity is not a guarantee of anything.  I recall some of the racists in my high school class in the early 1970s, and I have to admit the sad truth: many of them are racists today.  (more…)

Given the honor and devotion to country required to make it to the top ranks of the U.S. Military, it’s hard to think of anything these people find satisfactory about Donald Trump as their Commander-in-Chief.

Shortly after the president bypassed the entire system of military justice and pardoned a convicted war criminal, I spoke with a few friends, including a close boyhood pal, a recently retired lawyer in the U.S. Marine Corps’ Judge Advocate General system. (more…)

To think that he could have gotten away scot free had we not had the pandemic. He would have sailed right past all the lies and the criminality, and probably won a second term and installed himself as absolute ruler had he not faced this specific type of challenge, i.e., one that requires honesty to address.

Pandemics don’t respond to lies, spin, or blaming others; they’re beaten by the honest and transparent application of science, and that is as far from Trump as the rings of Saturn.

What’s going to happen next is anyone’s guess, but at this point it seems clear that we’ll have a new president in January, and all because of a few strands of genetic material, encased in a thin layer of grease.

Some folks find the current crises too much to deal with. Pandemic raging due to criminal mismanagement, Trump breaking down rule of law and committing more impeachable acts on a daily basis, cops murdering black people, unmarked shock troops indiscriminately pulling protesters into custody–and these are just the recent ones.

Can’t we simply avert our vision if this becomes too much to bear?

No, and here’s why it is morally unacceptable, as told in this powerful and beautifully written article: “Why we must not look away in the current crisis,” by Baptist pastor Mark Wingfield (pictured).

Here we have unmarked federal troops armed with war weapons, shown beating two medics who were treating an injured and apparently unconscious man.  If you have the stomach for it, you can watch them crack their heavy wooden batons against the doctors’ helpless bodies and smash them with their boots.

In today’s America, there is an entire political party who not only condones this criminal sadism, but is energized by it as well.

It will take the rest of the world a long goddamn time to forget what this country has become.

Below is Former National Security Adviser Susan Rice on Trevor Noah’s show, addressing Trump’s botched response to the COVID-19 pandemic (see screen shot at left).

I’ve always found her to be an extremely impressive woman; hope she gets the nod as Biden’s running mate. (more…)

These two shoppers, shown here in a Minnesota Walmart, will be casting their ballots for Trump in November.

I’m not bananas about Biden, but he sure will be getting my vote; I hope yours too.

Btw, if these folks were in a store I owned or managed, I’d say, “Pardon me.  This is private property, and I have the right to refuse service to anyone.  If you pigs are still here in 60 seconds,  I’ll have security remove you, assisted, as required, by the police.”

Seems like a solid approach to me. As we all know, viruses, as well as pathogens of all types, respond very well to right-wing extremism, torrential lies, and the belief system of Evangelical Christians.

The fact you have 415K COVID-19 cases, that you’re adding more that 10K/day, that you’re running out of ICU beds, and your state has a positivity rate of 14% are all immaterial.

Seriously, you’re the Republican governor of Florida.  If you don’t follow Trump on key matters like this, those people will feed you to the alligators.

This is exactly the way I’d feel if I lived in Portland.

Shock troops are not welcome here.

Go away.
