A reader asks: Obviously the main part of this is to crash the economy and blame it on Trump so he doesn’t get re-elected. But from everything I can see he’s getting more and more popular and the media less and less. What do you think?

Mike: I think you’re being coy here. You must have noticed that Trump is incapable of many things, of which empathy is one. Telling the truth is another. Never missing an opportunity for self-aggrandizement or punishing a critic is yet one more.
Here’s a guy who says the progressive agenda in America is not dead. He’s right, of course. There is no reason to think the United States can’t or won’t join the rest of the developed world in offering its citizens universal healthcare and free public education, while committing to environmental stewardship and some level of social justice.
