It goes without saying that an insignificant number of Democrats will vote for Trump. The problem the president faces, however, is that his outrageous behavior is driving away many in the GOP.

My mom and I had a phone conversation last evening during which she asked me how I could justify the actions of protesters who loot stores and burn buildings. I can’t, and I don’t.
But I pointed out that we’ve had nearly identical discussions every few years since the deadly riot at the New York State prison Attica in 1971, when I told her, “When people are treated like animals, they can be counted on to respond to stressful situations as animals.” (more…)

It appears that there may be some truth to the meme here. Think of what’s happened since Trump took office:
• A continuous stream of lies, corruption and criminality that has resulted in the disgrace of the United States on the world stage
• Institutionalized cruelty to the world’s most desperate people
Here’s an interesting story out of Canada that addresses their take on free speech. Like America’s, the Canadian Constitution protects citizens’ rights to speak freely under most circumstances. Yet their courts’ interpretation of what we call our First Amendment is apparently a bit different. This climate denier’s (pictured) right to free speech is guaranteed, but he’s still subject to libel charges. Contrast that to the U.S., where things like libel, incitement, child pornography, and several others are explicitly not protected. Check this out: (more…)
The George Floyd story will come to hurt Trump far more than it has so far, after we’ve gotten over the raw shock and revulsion and had time to piece together what all this means to our country’s well-being. That’s because, where Trump has succeeded thus far by dividing America, the anger that nearly every American is feeling right now is having precisely the opposite effect. (more…)
The Story of Stuff Project points out: Corporations that flouted environmental regulations and dumped pollutants into air and water won’t be required to pay the fines they’ve already agreed to during the pandemic.
We Americans are getting precisely what we deserve for enabling large corporations to make minions of our law-makers. Until we get money out of politics, there is no reason to expect any improvement along the lines of the travesty shown here.
It’s becoming clear that Big Oil is in the process of losing its death-grip on the world energy industry. Though this will be an uneven process, it clearly is moving in this direction. Sure, it will be helped along by progressive world governments whose people demand action in the form of plans like the Green New Deal; it will also face a headwind in the form of cheap gasoline that encourage consumers to take road-trips in their SUVs, but it is happening nonetheless.
